Paths require visual guidance, steps require contrast and planting benefits from carefully directed accents. Treating these needs separately creates depth and avoids uniform over-lighting.

Build a hierarchy

Primary routes should read more clearly than secondary paths. Entrances and gathering areas can carry slightly higher emphasis, while planted zones remain softer and more atmospheric.

Review the scene on site

Mock-ups reveal glare, reflections and sightlines that drawings cannot always predict. Final aiming and dimming should be completed after planting and architectural finishes are in place.
